Short and Tweet: Daniel Tashian
@hotpress: Hi Daniel. How are you today?
@thesilverseas: I’m great. What’s shakin’?
@hotpress: We’re just enjoying a very untypical day of sunshine here in Dublin! Where are you at the moment?
@thesilverseas: I’m about 2 hours east of Nashville, up in the mountains. I’ve got my Telecaster and a little champ amp up here in this basement, practicing some songs and it’s really echoey. Awesome!
@hotpress: With the new album all ready to go, how excited are you to just get it out there?
@thesilverseas: It feels great. We usually make a record and wait a long time for it to come out. But we just fi nished this record over the spring and now it’s all ready. I much prefer it that way. You can stay closer to the emotion of the songs.
@hotpress: How did you come around to calling the album Alaska?
@thesilverseas: I’ve never been to Alaska before but I have this very clear, idealised picture of it in my head. I thought it would be interesting to write an album about places we haven’t been to but feel as though we have.
@hotpress: Interesting considering a lot of musicians would look to your hometown of Nashville for inspiration.
@thesilverseas: Yeah, Nashville has this innate musicality, kind of like Ireland actually. Everyone knows songs, songwriters and how to play an instrument. Just like the Irish, the community in Nashville is naturally musical.
@hotpress: Have you seen ABC’s Nashville TV show?
@thesilverseas: Yeah it’s wonderful. I love the music in it. It’s been great for the economy of Nashville too. Before the show there was very little interest in the Bluebird Cafe, now you drive past and the line goes way down the street.
@hotpress: Looking forward to playing some of the new songs live?
@thesilverseas: Absolutely, man. There’s a real jammy feel to this record, kind of like The Grateful Dead, so we’re hoping to explore some musical territory when we play it live. The songs might even end up real jazzy.
Alaska is out on July 5.
