These guys make no bones about being in thrall to Detroit. But they do it so well that it’s hard to fault them. Dee’s ‘Shifts’ is based on the same tom-tom drum patterns and sweet chords, while Watson employs a pumping backing and warm pianos that hark back to the Belville Three’s glory days.
