Shane MacGowan's Pub to launch in New York City: "This will be a living tribute to a true icon"

A new bar named Shane MacGowan's Pub is coming to New York City, with the blessing of the late singer's family.

It will be located at 250 West 14th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue, which used to house McKenna's Pub.

The bar announced the news of its opening in a statement on Instagram, saying the establishment's ethos would be "Raising a glass to a legend: this will be a living tribute to a true icon."

"The rumours are true," read the statement. "We are incredibly honoured to be opening this space with the blessing of Shane's family, bringing his raw, poetic Irish punk spirit to the West Village."

No opening date has been announced, with the social media post saying the pub is "coming soon."

The Pogues singer-songwriter passed away from complications following pneumonia in November 2023 at the age of 65.

A tribute album to MacGowan has been announced for release on November 13. 20th Century Paddy - The Songs Of Shane MacGowan features reimagined tracks by Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, The Pogues, Hozier, Primal Scream, among many others.

Coinciding with the third anniversary of his death, fifty per cent of artist royalties from the album will be donated to Dublin Simon Community to provide housing and healthcare to those experiencing homelessness.

The album's first single was released in March, with Springsteen's version of The Pogues 'A Rainy Night in Soho', which was accompanied by an essay.

"Shane was all naked bottomless humanity," Springsteen wrote. "Threatening to force us to ask ourselves if we were living deeply, authentically,"

"I don't know who'll be listening to my music in 100 years, but I know they'll be listening to Shane's."
