Not content with taking care of special guest duties as U2 wend their way around South America, Franz Ferdinand have contributed a version of ‘A Song For Sorry Angels’ to a Serge Gainsbourg tribute album.
They’re partnered on the track by Serge’s ‘Je T’Aime (Moi Non Plus)’ squeeze Jane Birkin who guested with them recently when they played the French equivalent of Later With Jools Holland, Taratata.
Due in France on February 27, Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisted also includes Cat Power, Javis Cocker, Portishead, Michael Stipe, Tricky, Marianne Faithful, Marc Almond, Placebo, The Rakes, The Kills and Carla Bruni among its all-star cast.
Meanwhile, Franz guitarist Nick McCarthy has revealed that work on the follow-up to You Could Have It So Much Better… has already started.
"We recorded some songs in Melbourne, and we have been continuing to do so during the tour,” he says. “We’re going to America in April, where we intend to do the same. If we have enough material at the end of August, we'll release a new album this year. If not, it’ll be the beginning of 2007."
