Alela Diane announces Dublin show
Diane's tour announcement comes ahead of upcoming album Who's Keeping Time?. Her September show at Whelan's will be her first Irish gig in 15 years.
Alela Diane has announced a show at Whelan's in Dublin on Wednesday, September 30.
The show will celebrate her seventh studio album, titled Who's Keeping Time?, out Friday, May 22 via Fluff and Gravy Records.
“I came to the end of a season last year,” Alela wrote of the occasion for the album. “My daughters had grown a bit. I no longer had babies waking me in the middle of the night. I could hear myself think again.”
The Californian singer-songwriter boasts an impressive list of collaborators on Who's Keeping Time?, including Peter Lalish (Lucius), Anna Tivel, Sam Weber (Madison Cunningham), Danny Austin-Manning, and Kati Claborn and Luke Ydstie (Blind Pilot).
Single 'In My Own Time' is out now. It's a mellow contemporary folk track with contemplative, illustrative lyrics: "Don’t forget to go outside / To feel the wind / To breathe the cold air / The winter branches in these bones / Know when to bloom / Know when to bear." Listen below.
The LP was, in part, inspired by the death of Diane's friend Michael Hurley, the "godfather of freak folk."
“I was absolutely gutted,” Alela said of Hurley's passing. “I had a conversation with a friend who is a florist, and she talked about how spring is the most beautiful time to pass. How all the flowers are blooming and the light returns, how it’s a better time to grieve when rebirth is all around.”
Diane's Dublin show will be her first Irish gig in 15 years. It opens a wider tour of Europe and the UK. See a complete list of Diane's tour dates here.
Tickets for the gig will go on sale Friday, April 3, at 10am. Presale access is available here.
