Savages singer Jehnny Beth releases solo record ‘To Love Is To Live’ in May
Yesterday Jehnny Beth also shared a new simmering song from the album entitled ‘Flower’.
Savages has been on a break since 2017, after releasing their second album ‘Adore Life’. In the meantime the front singer has been busy working on her own projects with the likes of PJ Harvey, the xx, Anna Calvi, Gorillaz, and Julian Casablancas.
Jehnny Beth recently collaborated with director Anthony Byrne on the soundtrack for the show Peaky Blinders. It’s called ‘I’m The Man’ and starts off with a spoken word intro by actor Cillian Murphy. While it resembles Savages’ post-punk sound, it’s clear that she is heading in her own headstrong direction.
Her new song ‘Flower’ floats in completely different territory than ‘I’m The Man’. It tames the former’s aggressive pulse into something simmering and sensual. Written about a pole dancer at notorious strip club Jumbo’s Clown Room in Los Angeles, ‘Flower’ details the complicated depths of sexuality inside a fever dream of desire and loss. To Love Is To Live sees Jehnny Beth giving her intense vulnerability a glorious voice.
The album was recorded in Los Angeles, London, and Paris and features collaborators such as producers Flood, Atticus Ross, and longtime co-creator Johnny Hostile. As well as guest turns from The xx’s Romy Madley Croft, Irish actor Cillian Murphy, and IDLES’ Joe Talbot.
'Love Is To Live' will be out on May 8.
