Saucy Monky get saucier
With their new single taking residency in the national airwaves, Irish fans will be primed for next month's Saucy Monky tour
LA Irish girlbeat combo Saucy Monky have moved closer to making the breakthrough at national level with the addition of their new single 'Flicker' to the 2FM and Today FM playlists.
The single, the latest to be lifted from their acclaimed debut record Celebrity Trash (an eight-track mini album), is released this week and looks likely to bring the West Coast based outfit closer to the wildfire success that has been predicted by industry insiders here for some time.
Described by Tom Dunne as a "catchy harmony driven blend of guitar pop", Saucy Monky's
songs – hailed by Colm O'Hare in Hot Press as "intelligent, jangly, melodic and trashy all at once" – have also been picking up increasing recognition in the film business in the US, with tracks being used in a number of TV series, including Dawson's Creek and the new MTV reality TV series, Camp Jim.
The outfit have also announced a fresh batch of dates for December. Singers Annmarie Cullen and Cynthia Catania will do a stripped down Saucy show – delivered to great effect earlier in Ireland this year – supporting Mark Geary over three dates at Cleere's, Kilkenny (Wed 17th Dec), De Barras, Clonakilty, Cork (Thurs 18th Dec) and Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Cork (Fri 19th Dec). The Cork dates are likely to be a revelation, with the support that the band have received so far from Red FM, the county youth station, likely to ensure a huge turn-out of Saucy fans.
