Rumer 'Into Colour' - Album Review

Brace yourselves for a seriously sugary trip back in time, folks, as UK singer Sarah Joyce, aka Rumer, releases her third studio album. An aural ode to all things ‘70s, Into Colour starts off promisingly. ‘Dangerous’ is superb, Saturday Night Fever-style dancefloor gold, while ‘Reach Out’ channels the singer’s honey-smooth Karen Carpenter vocals excellently.
From here on, though, it gets less convincing: the likes of slow numbers ‘Play Your Guitar’ and ‘You Just Don’t Know People’ (“Most people are kind, most people are good/ There’s people out there who are just misunderstood”) will likely prove too schmaltzy for the hardened cynics of today. Me included, I’m afraid.
