Roll A Double
More American rock from Ireland
Jezzebelle is led by vocalist Katie Carpenter and guitarist Gary Burke and this is their second album. Think less sophisticated Fleetwood Mac and John Mellencamp and you’ve got it in two. Some hard gigging has given them a sprightly edge, most evident on tracks like ‘Turn On The Light’ and ‘Empty Mile’. ‘Never Coming Back’ has a bright open-air quality. ‘Latest Ghost’ has an infectious feel, with Burke singing like a not-quite-there-yet Springsteen. The driving ‘Under the Arch’ has a welcome country poke, with Carpenter proving she’s a feisty, flexible vocalist. This is solid stuff. But they need to start getting original if they’re to progress any further.
KEY TRACK: ‘TURN ON THE LIGHT’
