Despite cancelling two tour dates in Britain this week, REM ticketholders in Ireland are assured the shows will go on
REM have pulled out of two English concerts, casting a shadow of doubt over the Irish dates at the end of the week.
REM are due to bring their arena tour to the Odyssey in Belfast on Friday, and the Dublin Point on Saturday and Sunday.
Bassist Mike Mills was reported to have flu-like symptoms, being “unable to stand, let alone play” for the Sheffield concert on Monday. Hopes that his affliction was minor became dashed when Tuesday’s concert in Glasgow was cancelled too.
A spokesperson for the promoters of the Belfast date assured hotpress.com that for the moment, the gig was still on: “As far as we’re concerned it’s still going ahead, as we’ve not been told otherwise.”

This sentiment was echoed by MCD, promoters of the Dublin Point shows. “They’re still playing,” a spokesman confirmed.
