Prentice Piece: A Compilation From The First Three Decades
The definitive collection from the great Scottish singer and songwriter
The definitive collection from the great Scottish singer and songwriter, packaged in a double CD set with a 24-page booklet containing lyrics and background information for each of the tracks. The title refers to the piece of work presented by apprentices of old to demonstrate what they’d learned of their craft.
As Gaughan points out, musical apprenticeships never really end, and he’s been serving his for half a century. The finest fruits of that process are all here, from an uncompromisingly traditional rendition of ‘The Cruel Brother’ recorded in 1977 to recently-composed material from his 2001 album Outlaws & Dreamers. Essential listening.
