PREMIERE: Lucy Gaffney shares video for brand new single 'Heartstrings'
Get an exclusive first look at the new video from the Belfast star below.
Following the release of 'Star Sign Lover' earlier this year, and an unforgettable performance on the the Y&E Series, Lucy Gaffney is back – with a brand new single, 'Heartstrings', as well as an accompanying music video, premiering below.
Armed with a voice that's been described as "celestial" by Liam Gallagher, the Belfast singer-songwriter was tipped as one of our 'Hot For 2021' Irish acts at the beginning of the year. With the release of her new single, she continues to establish herself as one of the most exciting emerging forces in Irish music.
'Heartstrings' was produced by her brother – and former bandmate in alt-rock sibling duo MMODE – Thom Southern.
“Lyrically, ‘Heartstrings’ is in some sense autobiographical," Lucy comments. "But it could be about any two people when they first meet and are attracted to one another – the suspense, the thrill, the game playing, the overthinking and the fear of giving too much of yourself away too soon.”
Although she was raised in Belfast, Lucy has been based in Liverpool in recent years – working in the city’s iconic Parr Street Studios with James Skelly on her first two singles. Skelly, who she first met while touring with his band The Coral, was a crucial force behind her evolution into a solo artist.
“I was coming out of a different band, where it was really veering towards me just being the lead singer,” she told Hot Press. “James Skelly was like, ‘These songs are really good. Have you recorded any of them?’ So me and the band went into the studio with him, and what we did felt more like a solo project. I decided that’s the way it should go, and James helped develop it – along with my brother. It just fell into place, and we went with it.”
