Specialising in uplifting and dance-worthy pop, Hot for 2021 act Babylamb are primed to go supernova over the next 12 months.
Irish quartet Babylamb are back with a bang with their effervescent third single, 'Mister Magic' - due to be released on streaming platforms tomorrow.
The energetic pop band consists of Tobias Barry on lead vocals, saxophone, synths; Rían Stephens on backup vocals, production elements; Laoise Fleming on backup vocals; and Cian King on electric and bass guitar.
Forever tongue-in-cheek, Babylamb describe their latest anthem as "equal-parts hysterical, joyous, sexy and desperate - take a sip, hunny" – and we can't wait to hear it on the dancefloor.
Chosen confidently as one of Hot Press' Hot for 2021 Irish acts, the accolade came after a year of building up their bubblegum brand of friendship bedroom synth pop, and two warmly received singles.
'Bodyright' and 'Icky' garnered the four-piece over 120,000 streams, and considerable radio support, despite the group only getting started. 'Mister Magic' further builds-up anticipation as shiny, hyperactive pop perfection.
The powerful track was recorded and self-produced at home, during lockdown, by Babylamb. Given its sonic impact, they might never need to record anywhere else! The joyful track encompasses electric drums, warping synths and chunky guitars, before adding heavy sax and a guitar solo.
“Since I hit adulthood, I get these run-ins with a very deep, very immobilising depression. Snore. Then comes these massive crazy up-swings," lead singer and song producer Tobias says.
"I get this vast, screaming confidence all of a sudden, like there’s never been somebody like me. So at the moment I’m apprehensive, scared it will go away, but most of all - I’m feeling gorgeous. And that’s who 'Mister Magic' is, the version of you who’s just too hot to stick around.”
I kill it baby, every time/ And everythin' is black and white/ I'm on my way to paradise/ Nobody can kill my flow/ I'm president, topple my tower/ Nobody can tell me no.
The colourful, glitzy lyrics showcase the visual imagination of the group, meanwhile laying down all of their innermost vulnerable thoughts on the table generously for us to dance to. Babylamb will be releasing singles regularly throughout the year – thankfully for us! We can't think of a better time to be embraced by – and to embrace – their fun-loving, friendly warmth.
