PLAYLIST: Hozier tells Hot Press what he's been listening to lately
Listen to the full playlist below – featuring The Gloaming, Aretha Franklin, Mitski, Khruangbin & Leon Bridges, and more...
As part of a major Mixed Grill Q&A with Hot Press, made up of questions submitted by fans, Hozier has revealed the songs that are soundtracking his life right now – which we've compiled into a special Spotify playlist.
The 12-page feature is part of our new Electric Picnic Special Issue of Hot Press – which stars Hozier on the cover, ahead of his eagerly anticipated headline slot at the festival this month. The issue also includes interviews with other Stradbally-bound stars, including KNEECAP, For Those I Love, Orla Gartland, NOFUN!, and Delush.
Our Hozier cover story finds the Co. Wicklow artist in a remarkably open and reflective state-of-mind – as he answers a fascinating array of readers' questions on the creative process, politics, the Irish language, his favourite books and movies, and more. He also reveals his favourite biscuit, and whether he'd ever appear as a guest judge on Drag Race...
Sarah Keappock from Dublin asked the star:
"‘Too Sweet’ was my top Spotify Unwrapped song for 2024. What’s currently your top song on Spotify?"
He responded with a list of 13 tracks – featuring legends such as Aretha Franklin, and breakout stars like Σtella, in addition to Irish/American supergroup The Gloaming.
See Hozier's full response below:
I had to look this up, and unfortunately Spotify only do it in your last month and then you can look at, like, 2024 etc. But a few songs I’ve been listening to a lot recently – and across the past year – seem to be:
- Khruangbin & Leon Bridges - ‘Mariella’
- Mitski – ‘I Bet On Losing Dogs’
- Kings Go Forth – ‘High On Your Love’
- Mk.gee - ‘Are You Looking Up ‘
- Little Dragon – ‘Where You Belong’
- Aretha Franklin – ‘Aint No Way’
- Σtella & Redinho – ‘Charmed’
- The Gloaming – ‘The Sailor’s Bonnet’
And in the last month I was listening to quite a bit of:
- J.J. Cale – ‘Sensitive Kind ‘
- Angie McMahon – ‘Beginner’
- Mereba – ‘Rider’
- Original Koffee – ‘Pull Up’
- Moondog– ‘Bird’s Lament’
To celebrate the release of the new issue, we've gathered all Hozier's selections into a special Spotify playlist – available to listen to below:
Hozier plays Electric Picnic on Friday, August 29.
