They’ve played at Electric Picnic twice before and once on the Body and Soul stage but Cathal, co-lead singer and guitarist of The Altered Hours, tells me that the enviable 22.30PM slot this Friday will complement the band’s particular live performance.
“It’s a lovely slot for us,” he tells me. “I think it’s just that our live shows and the kind of music we do works better when it’s dark and we can engage with the audience more.” The band has developed and refined their style over the years and they are known for their intense, captivating live shows.
The Altered Hours have just finished a European tour to support their new album, In Heat Not Sorry, and Cathal tells me the audience can expect to hear some new songs amongst their seasoned tracks and fan favourites. “It’s really going to be 50/50,” he says. “We’ve toured with a lot of our older songs before so we’re going to try to get something new in there too.”
Cathal also shares which acts he’s excited to see on the Friday. “I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Myles Manly on the Body and Soul stage on Friday. I really think he’s one of the greatest pop stars of my time. I’m also looking forward to seeing a Cork band called New Pope on the Earthship stage. None of the main headliner acts really appeal to me this year. And it’s not a case that I’m trying to support smaller acts and ignoring the bigger acts or anything, it’s just the music that I’m into. I think there are a lot of great smaller acts on the line-up this year that I’m very keen to see.”
