Patti Smith to play Dublin
Patti Smith gives her Twelve covers album a live airing when she visits Dublin’s Vicar St.
She'll pay a visit on May 13.
Due through Columbia on April 16, it includes takes on Stevie Wonder ‘Pastime Paradise’, Tears For Fears ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’, Neil Young ‘Helpless’ and yet-to-be-specified numbers by Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Doors, Nirvana. Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers and Paul Simon.
Guest players include Red Hot Chili Pepper Flea, Black Crowe Rich Robinson and Television mainman Tom Verlaine but, sadly, no Kevin Shields who’d previously been linked to the project.
"It has been a real adventure doing these songs," Smith tells Billboard magazine. "I've always wanted to do a cover record, but I didn't think I had the range. But now, I feel really on the top of my game and ready to tackle a lot of different songs I thought had strong and relevant lyrics."
