Paradise in the Picturehouse
Formed in 1987 with brothers Joe and Steve Wall as the main instigators, The Stunning played their first gig in a Galway hotel in front of 50 people. For the next couple of years they earned their chops and their reputation the old fashioned way – by gigging relentlessly. By the time they recorded their debut they were already hugely popular, especially on the then-healthy college circuit. Released in the summer of 1990 their debut went to No.1 where it stayed for five weeks. ‘Half Past Two’, ‘Romeo’s On Fire’ and ‘Everything That Rises’ became radio staples, while the album’s best song, the superb ‘Brewing Up A Storm’ remains their live calling card.
No 38 in 2009, as voted for by over 200 Irish musicians.
