Recorded live without overdubs or effects, this is testament to the Toner trio’s intense absorption into the genre.
‘Long Story Short’ is witty western swing, while ‘Walk On Water’ has a gospel twist. ‘Right Place, Wrong Time’ is for loser lovers, and ‘Jimmie Rodger’s Dream’ warmly nods to country’s godfather. ‘My Fingers’ has a classic lyric about fingers finding an ex-’s phone number, and two instrumentals are dispatched with zestful ease. The playing from Toner and accomplice Clem Brien is impeccable, and their harmonies unforced. Good stuff.
