NEWSTALK TAKES STATION OF THE YEAR
Newstalk has reclaimed the Station of the Year Award, at the PPI Radio Awards, the results of which were announced on Friday night.
It was the highlight of a very productive year for the station, which also took the awards for Sports Programme of the Year with Off The Ball, Sports Broadcaster of the Year with Eoin McDevitt (of Off The Ball) and Specialist Speech Programme with Talking History.
Meanwhile the award for New Irish Music Talent Programme went to Across The Line on BBC Northern Ireland. Other key music awards included the award for Music Station of the Year, which went to FM104; Music Programme of the Year, which went to The Lock-In on Spin 1038, presented by Dara Quilty; Music Broadcaster of the Year, which went to Ray Foley on Today FM and Specialist Music Programme, which was snaffled by Today FM’s The Essential Rock Anthems with Ray and JP.
The Outstanding Achievement Award was lifted by the evergreen Gay Byrne, for his programme on Lyric FM, while the new Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy walked away with the Speech Broadcaster of the Year for his daily show on RTE Radio One.
The Local Station of the Year was won by Waterford FM and the award for Breakfast Programme was won by Red Rooster, on Cork’s Red FM.
