The much-loved gravel-gargling American is back…
Bad as Me hits the shops across Europe today, and it’s obscure singles and distinctive vocals aplenty for the established singer-songwriter.
Although he might be an acquired taste, Tom Waits has spread his influence far and wide – a proud fan of his includes Elbow lead singer Guy Garvey, who persistently plays Waits tracks on his 6Music radio programme (despite the occasional protests of his listeners).
With Waits’ characteristic change of direction, Bad as Me includes influences from across the board - from the early rock n roll sound of ‘Get Lost’ to the soul infested single ‘Bad as Me’ and near-acoustic ballads ‘Pay Me’ and ‘Back in the Crowd’. As his fans know and love him, Waits has kept his sound as varied as ever.

It is, of course, a superb offering – and ripe ground for a new tour. We hope that the enigmatic singer overcomes his notorious obscurity and publicises some tour dates soon.
