Neil Young has announced the release of a collection of rare, raw, early tracks recorded over the course of a week in a tiny Washington DC club.
Out on December 10, it draws on six intimate shows Young played in 1970 at
The Cellar Door, and which featured performances of songs that only reached the ears of the wider public on later albums. They include the first ever live airings of ‘Old Man’ and ‘Down By The River.’
These gems, alongside rare recordings of the multi-talented singer-songwriter performing on acoustic guitar and piano, promise fans a special insight into Young’s artistic growth.
The 13-track album will be released as a two-disc set on CD and 180-gram vinyl.

The full line-up: ‘Tell Me Why’, ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’, ‘After The Gold Rush’, ‘Expecting To Fly’, ‘Bad Fog Of Loneliness’, ‘Old Man’, ‘Birds’, ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down’, ‘See The Sky About To Rain’, ‘Cinnamon Girl’, ‘I Am A Child’, ‘Down By The River’ and ‘Flying On The Ground Is Wrong’.
Young, who is due to play New York’s legendary Carnegie Hall from January 6- 10) has posted a video trailer for the album, which, thankfully, you don’t need to get on a plane to enjoy.
