Narrow
Austrian wunderkind continues to dazzle on new album
Soap & Skin is an experimental musical project from the creative mind of Austrian songwriter Anja Plaschg, and Narrow is her brand new mini-album. Inspired in part by the death of her father in ’09, the eight-track record is a bleak but beautiful listening experience that sees the singer perform in German, English and French. Her stark reimagining of old club classic ‘Voyage Voyage’ by Desireless is worth the price of admission alone, but ‘Lost’ and ‘Cradlesong’ are pretty special too. While, at different times, Narrow recalls Cat Power, Aphex Twin and Lisa Germano, Plaschg’s unique vocal tone sets her apart from her peers. She could be one for the long haul.
