Music Week set to shine a light on Irish music
Influential UK magazine turns its attention to our shores.
Music Week, the biggest trade paper relating to the UK music industry, is gearing up for its annual Ireland special, due out next month. Intending to focus on the state of the Irish music industry today, the magazine will publish an in-depth report on all aspects of the Irish music scene, aiming to provide a clear overview of
the industry as it actually is.
"Music Week will once again be turning the spotlight on Ireland to provide our UK and international readers with a compelling insight into the trends, current developments and key issues within the Irish music market while also profiling emerging acts," says the magazine's Archie Carmichael. "The report will examine the achievements of key local businesses and the challenges facing sectors including recorded music, live, publishing, digital and retail map."
Carmichael believes that Irish bands and artists are going the extra mile to make a name for themselves on the international circuit.
"Despite the current global economic downturn this year has undoubtedly seen a wealth of new exciting acts from Ireland making an impact at international festivals," he notes. "The likes of Adebisi Shank, Funeral Suits, Halves, Ham Sandwich, The Lost Brothers, James Vincent McMorrow, The Mighty Stef, O Emperor, R.S.A.G, Sacred Animals, Sweet Jane and Pierce Turner [have all stood out]"
