Megan Thee Stallion seeking $1 million in damages from record label
Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion wishes to end her relationship with the label.
Megan Thee Stallion has filed a lawsuit against her record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, in order to end her affiliation with them.
Megan, legally named Megan Pete, has faced many disputes and differences with 1501 throughout their professional relationship. 1501 have stated that Pete's project Something for Thee Hotties does not meet their requirements for an album, and therefore she owes them more music. Their reasoning involves its inclusion of archival material and spoken word, and the time of release being too close to her previous album Good News.
The attorney for 1501 explains, "Our belief is she owes us one more album, at least. There's no way Something for Thee Hotties qualifies as an album as that term is defined under her recording commitment in her various contracts with 1501" to People Magazine. They are still evaluating Traumazine.
Megan filed a lawsuit against the label in 2020, claiming that they would not allow her to release new music due to her attempts to renegotiate her contract. Past issues have been resolved through "the issuance of multiple temporary restraining orders," according to Pete's attorneys, "but a new dispute has arisen requiring further assistance from the Court."
The Grammy award winning rapper is now requesting $1 million in relief from the label, and the termination of her contract with them.
