Johnny McDaid to be honoured at the 2026 BMI London Awards

Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid will be honoured with the BMI President’s Award at the 2026 BMI London awards on September 28.

“From his early days honing his craft on the streets of London to becoming one of the most sought-after collaborators in music, Johnny has built an extraordinary career defined by creativity, authenticity and a deep respect for the craft of songwriting,” said Mike Steinberg, Chief Revenue and Creative Officer of BMI.

McDaid has collaborated on songs recorded by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, Alicia Keys, Lewis Capaldi, Weezer and more.

The Derry-born musician began his career in his late teens, busking on the streets of London. Since then, he has become a two-time Grammy nominee, two-time Ivor Novello winner and holds 17 BMI Awards.

In 2018, ‘Shape of You’ became the first song in Spotify history to reach two billion streams and is now at more than five billion. It held 14 weeks at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and has amassed 8.8 billion YouTube views.

Most recently, McDaid co-wrote ‘Bottle Up’ for the Backstreet Boys and ‘Animal’ for KATSEYE, which debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Global 200 charts and surpassed 10 million YouTube views within two days of release.

Previous recipients of the BMI President’s Award include Noel Gallagher, Ellie Goulding, Willie Nelson and more.

The BMI London Song of the Year, Million-Air Awards and awards for Pop, Theatrical Film, Streaming Series and Network Television Music will also be presented throughout the evening.
