McDonald's pushes their brand as a weight-loss tool through new film
An American high school teacher filmed himself losing weight while eating 540 consecutive meals of McDonald's
An American high-school teacher from Iowa has produced a documentary showcasing him eating only McDonald's meals for 180 consecutive days. The man consumed 540 meals of McDonald's, and has reportedly lost weight, while maintaining a positive state of mind and balanced moods.
The documentary film argues that for healthy, thin people the impacts of solely eating McDonald's are detrimental, however, for unhealthy overweight individuals, the effects are minimal.
John Cisna, the Iowa teacher explains in the movie that he made sure he was eating 2000 calories per day at the fast food establishment, and that he was exercising. Because he was consuming less calories and engaging in physical activity, Cisna dropped 56 pounds.
Following viral recognition of the film, McDonald's approached Cisna to hire him as a "brand ambassador" for the fast food chain.
The high school teacher is now travelling around the country to speak to various schools about his experience, and to promote McDonald's as a "weight-loss tool."
Understandably, this has garnered a significant amount of criticism from many nutritionists, with McDonald's denying allegations that they funded the initial release of the film.
Bettina Elias Siegel, a freelance writer published a piece on her blog, The Lunch Tray, earlier this week. Siegel explained that McDonald's has released a teacher's discussion guide that encourages the documentary to be shown in classes.
Agree with it or not, McDonald's has clearly found a new niche, and is turning the impossible into the absurd.
