Mary Coughlan teams up with Ultan Conlon for new single 'Lumberjack'
The Galway native has previously collaborated with Conlon on her 2025 single 'Freefalling'
Jazz and blues singer Mary Coughlan has released her latest single, ‘Lumberjack,' via Strange Brew, featuring Irish trad artist Ultan Conlon.
The track is taken from her critically acclaimed album, Repeat Rewind, which was listed as one of The Irish Times Top 5 Jazz Albums of 2024.
Receiving an 8/10 rating in Jackie Hayden's Hot Press review, he noted the record "overflows with honest emotions."
Teaming up with long-time collaborator Ultan Conlon, 'Lumberjack' is an intimate duet, blending folk melodies with jazz undertones.
"The first time I heard Ultan singing the song, it broke my heart," said Coughlan. "My granddaughter said it was more beautiful than a singing unicorn! I asked Ultan if I could sing it—and he asked me for a gig,” she added.
Elsewhere, the Galway native collaborated with Conlon on her 2025 single 'Freefalling,' as well as their weekly podcast, You're Not Listening.
To celebrate her 40 years in the Irish music scene, Coughlan will perform at the Galway International Arts Festival on July 23. Joined by her full band, she will be performing renditions of her greatest hits from the last four decades.
