The latest release from this jovial foursome has all the eclecticism, energy and good humour of their previous output, but I’m mystified as to why they opted to kick it off with the Penguin Café Orchestra’s ‘Music For A Found Harmonium’, which has already been done fairly definitively by both Sharon Shannon and the band Patrick Street. Other than that, no complaints: singer/songwriter Kevin Doherty continues to delve ever deeper into the bluesier side of country, bodhrán man Gino Lupari pitches in with a good old-fashioned raspy-voiced ‘The Midnight Special’, and Cathal Hayden and Gerry O’Connor spark off each other, trading fiddle and banjo roles on the instrumental numbers that dominate the album.
