Mary Coughlan sings Billy Holiday
Attempting to step into the shoes of a legend, especially one such as Billie Holiday, would be a daunting task for anyone. But it does help if, like Mary Coughlan, one is a bit of a legend oneself.

This double album recorded live in Dublin's HQ is not alone a tribute to one of the 20th century's greats, but is a proper acknowledgement of, and setting for, the talents of a unique singer.
If there is a more polished, lovingly assembled collection of songs than this on release, I'd walk a long way to see it. This is a document of a tortured life from one who has seen her own tribulations. It is also a stand-alone work of amazing integrity.
With this record, probably the best she has ever made, Mary Coughlan – together with arrangers Rock Fox and Peter O'Brien – has made a musical statement of huge significance and by choosing not to plagiarise original phrasing etc., has added even further distinction to both her own reputation and that of Holiday.
This is a remarkable document of two fine artists, a beautifully crafted piece of work which should be in every home in the country. Just go and buy it.
