Marr to work with Ian Brown
Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr and one-time Stone Roses vocalist Ian Brown are planning to write songs and record an album together, according to Brown.
Brown is also keen to involve himself with Marr, his ex-Stone Roses colleague Mani and Happy Mondays’ bass player Paul Ryder, in what would amount to a Manchester supergroup, to write music for TV dramas being written by a friend of Brown’s.
Brown’s plan is for his collaboration with Marr to compose the music and himself to take of lyric duties. Both men are currently active with their own projects, Marr as part of The Cribs and Brown having recently released another solo album My Way.
But the pair have known each other since they met teenagers in seventies, before they had achieved any rock success with their respective bands.
