Lithuanian Cellist to join The Matthews at Whelans
The highly-rated Wicklow band, formerly known as Children of the Son, have some surprises in store for their debut gig in their new incarnation...
The Matthews have revealed more about plans for their Whelan’s show tomorrow night.
For what is their first headlining gig at the legendary Dublin venue, the Wicklow-based outfit are being joined by cellist Gabriele Dikciute (pictured). Nineteen year-old Gabrielle comes from a family of musicians. Originally from Lithuania, she is a student at The Royal Irish Academy in Dublin. Meanwhile, Anthony Norton of the Three Irish Tenors will play piano with the band for the gig. Over the past two years, Anthony has been working with singer Jack Matthews on his vocal technique. The band have also decided not to include a drummer for what promises to be a very intimate show.
“It's the best we have ever sounded," says guitarist and chief songwriter, Max Matthews. The band, formerly known as Children of the Son, will play six new songs in what is their first live appearance as The Matthews.
The show is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3. Doors open at 8pm and support on the night is provided by Root Cellar.
