Listen: Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings stream 'I'm Still Here'
Ahead of screenings of the documentary Miss Sharon Jones!
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have shared 'I'm Still Here' via Soundcloud.
The song details the major struggles of Jones' life, including her childhood in segregationist New York City and her grind to musical success in the face of sexist, ageist, racist record execs. It is part of the soundtrack of the Barbara Kopple-directed film Miss Sharon Jones!.
After a year of making the rounds at film festivals, the documentary will screen at select U.S. theaters this summer.
The movie depicts the release of Jones' 2014 album Give the People What They Want and her struggle with cancer, which she is still grappling with.
