LISTEN: New Daithí track
Ahead of a new EP release early next year.
February sees the release of Tribes, a fresh EP from Galway-based pop artist Daithí.
His first collection since his In Flight debut album, it kicks off with 'Mary Keanes Introduction', a track very close to the musician's heart.
The tune, which you can hear below, is a dreamy dance track that features the voice of his own grandmother, as she discusses following in love as a young girl in Clare.
"A few years ago my Grandmother was interviewed about what life was like in Clare when she was younger," Daithi explains. "When I heard the recording I couldn't believe how personal and heartfelt it was, I hadn't heard anyone her age talk so honestly about love. I put parts of the interview to some chords I was writing and everything clicked into place. It's a great introduction to the upcoming record, which is inspired by living in the west of Ireland. My Grandmother is 90 years old, and still lives in a thatched cottage in Ballyvaughan."
And on the topic of the EP as a whole:
"Tribes was written in Galway in the last year. I spent a lot of time around the city and along the coast, recording samples from beaches, farms and city streets. After making such a clean pop record, I wanted to go back and make something a little more organic, something that reflects what life is like for young people living in the west of Ireland”.
Before we get our hands on Tribes, there are chances to catch him in live action:
November 20 – Roisin Dubh, Galway
November 21 – Set Theatre, Kilkenny
December 11 – Workman's Club, Dublin
