LISTEN: Fall Out Boy go hardcore
The rougher-than-usual 'We Were Doomed From The Start (King Is Dead)' was produced by Ryan Adams.
Earlier this year, Fall Out Boy returned with an album entitled Save Rock And Roll that actually contained big-hearted and highly-polished pop songs.
Perhaps inspired by the 'future of guitar music' debate they inadvertently sparked in the aftermath, their new material finds them breaking out the power chords.
The Pax Am Days eight-track EP will be included on a two-disc reissue of Save Rock And Roll, due out at the start of next week, and if 'We Were Doomed From The Start (The King Is Dead)' is anything to go by, it should rattle along at breakneck pace, hitting plenty of '80s US hardcore and punk touchstones as it goes.
The new tracks were recorded over the summer in LA with troubadour-by-day Ryan Adams. Adams himself has not been averse to sticking out some gonzo guitar stuff in between albums in the past so his presence likely influenced the new direction/ detour.
