Leather pants stopped Slash from joining The Stone Roses
Stone Roses: "We’re not going to work with a guy with leather pants, are we?"
Yes, this is a real story.
After leaving Guns 'n' Roses, Slash's first choice was to play with The Stone Roses. The guitarist offered to play in the group just after guitarist John Squire quit.
Recalls former Stone Roses replacement guitarist Aziz Ibrahim: "There was a lot of bitterness and anger and so forth, maybe they wanted to piss [John] off, so they thought, 'Let's get the greatest rock icon of all time."
Why didn't it happen?
The band apparently decided they couldn't work with Slash because he wore leather pants.
Ibrahim says, "They said something to the effect of, 'We're not going to work with a guy with leather pants, are we?'"
That's a real quote.
Slash told The Guardian in 2010 that he'd never even met The Stone Roses and the rumour that he almost joined the group was just that: a rumour.
Could it be Slash just has hurt feelings?
If any of our readers are planning a Stones Roses biopic, please don't forget this episode.
