BIG BUD
Late Night Blues [Good Looking Records]
Former jazzy drum’n’bass producer Big Bud releases a ‘concept’ second album, and the alarm bells start ringing. After all, the ‘concept’ album is usually the preserve of the creatively challenged, but the ‘virtual gig’ that constitutes the first CD here is excellent, a fusion of live instruments and house, hip-hop and even string led, emotive techno tracks like ‘Sacha’s Song’ and ‘All Over The World’. Unfortunately, Big Bud comes a cropper when he reverts to his drum’n’bass leanings on CD 2; it’s not that there’s anything particularly wrong or offensive about this soft focus drum’n’bass, but it could have been made anytime during the last half decade.
