Kodaline announce split: "After over a decade, it’s time to say goodbye"
The band will part ways after recording their final album as Kodaline
Kodaline have announced that they will be breaking up.
Posting a video to social media with the caption "After over a decade, it’s time to say goodbye", they explained that they will be-going their separate ways following the completion of their fifth and final album.
"Hey everyone, after over a decade together, we've made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Kodlaline," say the band in the video."We know this might come as a surprise, and it's definitely bittersweet for us too. What we've shared with you has changed our lives forever. From busking on the streets of Dublin to playing shows across the world, it really has been the stuff that dreams are made of.
"We wanted to end on a high, so before we say goodbye, we're heading into the studio one last time to record our fifth and final album as Kodaline. We are and always will be forever grateful for your love and support. It's been a journey that we'll never forget, and we hope the music stays with you long after we're gone."
Comprising Steve Garrigan, Vincent May, Mark Prendergast, and Jason Boland, the band formed in North Dublin in 2005, originally performing as 21 Demands before adopting the name Kodaline in 2012.
They made history in March 2007, when their debut single 'Give Me a Minute' became the first independently released track to top the Irish Singles Chart. They would go on to become one of the most commercially successful acts in Ireland in the 2010s, with three of their four LPs topping the Irish Charts (the other, 2020's One Day At A time, reached No. 2), as well as breaking the top 10 in multiple other countries.
While their fifth and final album has been confirmed, further details have not yet been announced.
