Recorded over two nights in Portland Oregon, this (I think) is Kevin Burke's first solo album in over 20 years.
It is something of a minor masterpiece as, mostly alone, he touches base with much of the music from his past, and in revisiting it, bestows upon it a new strength and relevance.
A good example is the opening track 'The Butterfly' where he adds an extra rhythmic cadence to one of the most beautiful tunes in the Irish repertoire. Some way into the album he is joined by both guitarist Aiden Brennan and the redoubtable Martin Hayes, and the resulting amalgam is beyond words.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what music is supposed to be about. Brilliant.
