Johnny Greenwood announces new album Ranjha and releases title track
The new record is due out on May 8 via World Circuit/BMG.
Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood has announced a new solo album titled Ranjha, due out on May 8 via World Circuit/BMG.
It will see Greenwood reunite with composer Shye Ben Tzur and The Rajasthan Express following their 2015 collaborative album Junun.
Coming over a decade after its predecessor, the upcoming release was massively delayed by COVID-19, Radiohead’s own creative plans, and other events, according to a press release.
“It was a very different experience,” said Ben Tzur. “It was about getting a clearer sound in a more controlled environment, but using the features of the studio to be creative in a completely different way. So I think it sounds very different.”
The record’s title track ‘Ranjha’ was also released today, alongside a corresponding music video from filmmaker Ian Patrick.
Junun received massive critical acclaim upon its release, and was recorded at Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan and overseen by long-time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.
It was also accompanied by a documentary of the same name and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
