The new song is taken from the film 'Wild Rose' starring Jessie Buckley herself. The movie will premiere in Irish cinemas from April 12th.
Jessie Buckley has become one of the fastest rising actors in cinema. In no time at all, she has delighted audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival, received a BAFTA Rising Star nomination, and she has graced the cover of Hot Press's annual Best of Ireland issue for 2019.
Now the actress looks set to take the music world by storm as the star and voice of the gritty, inspirational and heart-warming film Wild Rose.
The film’s standout track and emotional centrepiece 'Glasgow', written by Oscar-winning US star Mary Steenburgen, is released today.
The film, as well as the full soundtrack, are released on April 12th.
'Glasgow' provides the musical cornerstone of this universally acclaimed film and is performed by Buckley with enormous passion, sincerity and genuine vocal prowess. The writing and recording experience was completely new to Jessie who found the experience so rewarding that she has since performed the songs live and will be playing shows with a full band following the release of the film. The Original Soundtrack will be released on Island Records on April 12th, the same day the film hits the screens in the UK.
Starring alongside Julie Walters and Sophie Okonedo, the Irish born Jessie plays Rose-Lynn Harlan, a single mother of two, fresh out of prison, bursting with raw talent, charisma and cheek. Her dream is to leave Glasgow for Nashville to make it as a country star. Directed by BAFTA nominee Tom Harper (The Scouting Book For Boys), produced by BAFTA nominee Faye Ward (Stan & Ollie) and written by BAFTA award-winning writer Nicole Taylor (The C Word), Wild Rose is an uplifting story with an original soundtrack about family, dreams and reality, and three chords and the truth. Rose-Lynn’s mum Marion (Julie Walters) has had a bellyful of Rose-Lynn’s Nashville nonsense. Forced to take responsibility, Rose-Lynn gets a cleaning job, only to find an unlikely champion in the middle-class lady of the house (Sophie Okonedo).
RADA graduate Jessie’s TV performances include the role of Princess Marya in BBC hit-adaptation of Tolstoy’s epic novel War and Peace and starring opposite Tom Hardy in historical drama series Taboo. This April she will be seen in the HBO / Channel 4 series Chernobyl alongside Emily Watson. In 2018 Jessie had her first lead role in Michael Pearce’s critically acclaimed film Beast, co-starring with Johnny Flynn. The film opened to rave reviews and Jessie won the most promising newcomer award at the British Independent Film Awards.
2019 promises to be a very busy year for Jessie with co-starring roles alongside Renee Zellweger in Judy Garland biopic “Judy” and “The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle” alongside Robert Downey Jr.
