Weapons prequel announced about Amy Madigan's character Aunt Gladys
Weapons was released by Warner Bros. last summer, starred Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, and Madigan.
Aunt Gladys, the character portrayed by Academy Award -winner Amy Madigan in Zach Cregger's 2025 horror success Weapons, is set to star in her own feature-length prequel.
Currently titled Gladys, the project is in development at New Line Cinema. Madigan, who earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the role, will return to the centre of the story.
"Zach has a map of what he would like to do," Madigan told The Hollywood Reporter late last year about a possible prequel. "It would be such a blast, and it would be really great if we could revisit her in some way. I’m excited about that possibility."
Zach Cregger, known for directing Barbarian and for the upcoming Resident Evil reboot, will co-write the script with Zach Shields. Shields is the screenwriter behind Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Cregger will also serve as a producer, alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.
The original film, Weapons, released by Warner Bros. last summer, starred Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, and Madigan. The narrative centres on the mysterious disappearance of seventeen children, all from the same classroom, who vanish simultaneously on a single night.
