Irish musicians angered by Stormzy/Lukaku picture gaffe
Soulé, Jess Kavanagh & Rubberbandits have all had their say.
Irish musicians have reacted to the Herald's mixing up of new Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku and current Hot Press cover star Stormzy, which the grime artist is not impressed by.
"I don't find none of this funny," he complained on social media shortly after news of the Herald's Picture Desk gaffe went global. "Don't wanna sound like the party pooper who missed the joke..."
Reacting to the news, Dublin electro popper Soulé said: "Yo, it's not funny... You have every right to be annoyed. It's disrespectful."
Jess Kavanagh from BARQ was in even more combative mood when she tweeted: "Irish Red Tops In Can't Tell Black People Apart Shocker. Fucking Idiots" and then added: "Just complete ignorance. Everything else I try to say is just a string of the C-word with other words in between."
"Irish telling Stormzy to 'chill out'," proffered the Rubberbandits. "I'm assuming we'll all be chilling out the next time a Brit newspaper claims an Irish person so, ya? And do we say to Brits who tell us to chill out? 'You don't understand, you don't know what it's like, or know the history. Just listen'. We're one of the few white countries who didn't engage in colonising on a national level, we were colonised. We can use that for empathy."
