Irish Female Athletes Grace Charity Calendar
The calendar launch, a gala dinner in aid of Pieta House & Ronald McDonald House, takes place November 21.
Sixteen of the country's top female Irish athletes – including jockey Katie Walsh, basketball star Grainne Dwyer, footballer Julie Ann Russell and Irish rugby captain Niamh Briggs – have come together to grace a Vintage Couture Calendar in aid of two charities. Pieta House and the Ronald McDonald House accommodate parents of critically ill children attending Crumlin Children’s Hospital, so it is undoubtedly the most worthy of causes.
The calendar was made possible by the Robert Chambers Hair Group, in conjunction with Wella Professional Haircare.
To launch it in style and raise awareness, a red carpet black tie gala dinner will take place in O'Callaghan's Davenport Hotel, Merrion Square, on Saturday November 21.
MC for the night is RTE sports broadcaster Jacqui Hurley and RTE DJ Jacqui Carroll will be providing the music.
The dinner is also the inaugural event organised by Seifa Ireland, Supporting Elite Irish Female Athletes, which was set up to address the increased need for support for elite Irish female athletes and to provide awareness of their achievements. It is well documented that amateur female athletes face tough challenges in securing finance, support and sponsorship. In addition, Seife Ireland recognises the importance of female athletes as role models for young girls.
Seifa Ireland will provide annual events and initiatives that will provide exposure and recognition for female athletes' achievements and launches officially in the spring.
Tamar Chambers, of Robert Chambers, says: "The dedication required for these women to reach their athletic goals is huge and we are delighted to be a sponsor and advocate for their achievements. We already have the privilege of supporting Julie Ann Russell, international soccer star, and are delighted to provide a platform to showcase her and her contemporary female athletes for their wonderful successes."
Tickets for the event are now available here, with individual tickets costing €55 and tables of ten offered at €500.
