Cork musician Eoin French's solo act, Talos is a unique electronic tinged indie
When his last band Hush War Cry ground to a halt, the Cork musician Eoin French was at a crossroad. Would he go solo? The answer was he’d give it a go...
“It was a learning curve going from writing with a band to writing on my own,” admits Eoin. He spent time collaborating with Ian Ring, from highly rated Cork electronic duo, Young Wonder. That experience was vital to his transformation into the solo artist, Talos. “Ian showed me the ropes, in regard to producing and writing,” he explains.
Drawing on indie influences like Wild Beast, Alt-J & These New Puritans – all bands as it happens – Talos has developed his own unique sound.
“Electronics meets straight up songwriting,” he quips. “The song has to stand up on its own before anything else. The song comes first, and the production is heavily based on that. Writing has to remain personal: it has to be something that resonates strongly with me, the people I’m with, the place I’m in, or what I’m doing.”

Talos has released two singles to date – ‘Tethered Bones’ and ‘In Time’. The latter featured on the American ABC network television show Guilt – a welcome surprise that apparently came completely out of the blue.
An upcoming four-track EP O, Sanctum, will be released in August, featuring two new songs and two remixes, by MAPS and Sing Fang. “They’re quite different songs,” Eoin says about his new material. “‘Love Is An Island’ is an inward-looking, self-reflecting track, whereas ‘Reborn’ is more outward-looking and expansive.”
We like the sound of Talos a lot. Let’s hope the world does too...
