International Women's Day Film Festival today
Alongside the screenings, HP film critic Roe McDermott will be conducting Q&As.
The first-ever International Women's Day Film Festival takes place in the Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin, today and it looks set to be a unique event jam-packed with choice film screenings and revealing discussion.
Academy Award nominee and IFTA winning Irish director and writer Juanita Wilson will be in attendance. Her critically acclaimed debut feature As If I Am Not There will be shown, followed by a Q&A conducted by Hot Press' own Roe McDermott. Roe will also talk to Ken Wardrop, director of the immensely popular and award-winning picture His And Hers.
Speaking ahead of the event, McDermott says: "The films – including Oranges & Sunshine – are a really great selection of inspiring features that are made by, or concern, empowered women. The Q&As will be a great opportunity to speak to some wonderful feminist directors."
The first-ever International Women’s Day Film Festival will run in association with Hot Press and Concern Worldwide, with the Smithfield venue proudly present a series of intelligent and thought-provoking cinematic works over the course of the one-day event, including box office hits and award-winning films.
It all takes place from 4:40pm until 10:30pm. For more information, visit [link]www.lighthousecinema.ie[/link] or call Concern on 01 4178064. Tickets are available at a cost of €20 for a day ticket or €9 per feature film, with 50% of all proceeds going towards the Women of Concern group, supporting women’s projects in Bangladesh.
