International Festivals 2019: Roskilde, Denmark
Hot Press takes a look at some of the best festivals outside of Ireland this summer.
Roskilde Festival offers an abundance of experiences and adventures. With 172 curated musical acts, performances and installations from cutting-edge artists, and a focus on activism and social change, Roskilde is one of Europe’s greatest festivals. Founded by two high school students in 1971, it has grown from its hippy origins into a forward thinking and wide-ranging event. This year’s theme is solidarity, and programme head Anders Wahrén has expressed pride that Roskilde “can attract artists who really care and have something on their mind, apart from entertainment”. The week long festival features a slew of performances from rock to hip-hop to dance music.
