Indie icon Darwin Deez is returning to Dublin
The 'Radar Detector' singer just announced a headline gig at Whelan's next year.
Over a year since his last Dublin appearance, today Darwin Deez announces his return to the island with a headline gig at Whelan's on Thursday, 30 April 2020. Last October, he graced the stage of the Workman's Club in support of his latest album, 10 Songs That Happened When You Left Me With My Stupid Heart.
Born in North Carolina to Maher Baba disciples, Deez grew up on a diet of Weezer, Nirvana, and Toto, and started his first band with friends at age 12. After attending and promptly dropping out of Wesleyan University, Connecticut, Darwin moved to and found himself at home in New York City.
In the East Village, he became a fixture of Monday nights at the Sidewalk Café, a legendary stomping ground for NYC’s anti-folk scene. Here, Deez came into his own as a performer. His live shows became extravaganzas of unbridled energy and unfettered joy and often broke into spontaneous bouts of synchronised dancing.
Singularly a complex and entertaining individual, Darwin Deez is known for his infectiously danceable tunes. He is renowned for his live shows where he breaks out into his own choreographed routines – quite a feat from the man Hot Press once claimed as the "worst dancer in indie"!
Darwin Deez will play Whelan’s on Thursday, 30 April 2020 with tickets available here from €17.50 on sale this Friday, 15 November at 9am. In the meantime, check out some of his sick moves in the music video for 'Radar Detector'.
