Bruce Springsteen shares wife and bandmate Patti Scialfa is in cancer remission

Bruce Springsteen has shared that his wife and bandmate Patti Scialfa is in cancer remission after eight years.

The E Street Band member had been living with multiple myeloma - a rare form of blood cancer - since 2018.

Springsteen announced the improvement in his wife's health last Saturday in a video message for the Pan-Mass Challenge, a bike-a-thon fundraiser benefitting cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute - where Scialfa was treated.

In the video, he praised the organisation's commitment to advancing cancer research and spoke about her battle with blood cancer.

"As you know, Patti's been living with her multiple myeloma for over eight years now," he said in the message. "But now, thankfully, she is in remission.

"However, like millions of families facing cancer, we've learned what every patient learns: hope has a face..."

Scialfa was absent from the video, but her husband went on to thank the doctors and "amazing team" at Dana-Faber, and said her health journey offers a lesson he hopes "every American can understand."

"Medical research isn't an idea. It isn't politics," he continued. "It isn't a line in a budget. It's the reason why families find hope when hope seems hardest to find."

Scialfa has been a member of the E Street Band since 1984; she and Springsteen married in 1991, and have three children together. Since her diagnosis, she has only performed at select shows and for a few songs.

When sharing her diagnosis in 2024, she explained: "Every once in a while, I come to a show or two, and I can sing a few songs onstage, and that's been a treat. That's the new normal for me right now, and I'm okay with that."
