Barack Obama pays tribute to Glen Hansard as he shares his Summer Playlist

The former US President, Barack Obama, has recently shared his annual Summer Playlist, which features the late Glen Hansard's 'Song of Good Hope'.

The former president paid tribute to Hansard, captioning his Instagram, "it starts with a song Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard, a great musician who passed tragically this week. Our hearts go out to his family."

Shared by Obama and the former first lady Michelle Obama, the playlist has become a tradition since the two left the White House, spotlighting chart-topping hits, international sounds and up-and-coming artists.

Obama jumps through the decades with classic artists David Bowie, The Beatles, Marvin Gaye and Neil Young. Then, he switches to more modern artists such as Hozier, Drake, SZA and Raye.

Many artists featured on the playlist took to social media to share their excitement.

Sheryl Crow commented under Obama's post saying, "man, I’m super honored that someone I admire so much is listening to a deep deep cut from my second record."

Noah Kahan tweeted "I can finally rest" in response to the playlist, after he spent many years attempting to make the cut.

Fans were surprised by the feature of BossMan Dlow's 'Motion Party', with BossMan commenting "“It’s A Motion Party We Gotta Let Obama Innn.”

Comments were also flooded with heartbroken fans paying their respects to Hansard, including Rachel Zegler who simply wrote "Glen."

Tributes to Hansard have poured out across social media, following his death in a road traffic accident on Wednesday morning. Those who have paid tribute include Bruce Springsteen, Billie Eilish, Bono and Irish president Catherine Connolly.
