In Towers and Clouds
The lovingly-crafted work of a team willing to explore beyond the obvious, The Immediate’s In Towers And Clouds was widely acclaimed, made a sizeable dent chartwise and was nominated for the Choice Award. With deals done in several countries, world domination beckoned, until the band was rent by what they playfully called “existential differences” and split. Songs like the caustic ‘Fashion Or Faith’, ‘Don’t You Ever’, the high-octane ‘Let This Light Shine In Your Eyes’ and the title track (all angular guitars and sugar-sweet harmonies) excel. Those who fell in love with this confident album can only fantasise about where it might have led.
No 25 in 2009, as voted for by over 200 Irish musicians.
